US election: Kamala Harris promises to be president for all

Vice President Kamala Harris has committed to serving as a president for all Americans if elected. During a speech in Chicago on Thursday, where she officially accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for president, Harris passionately outlined her vision for the nation’s future.

Speaking at the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention, Harris shared her personal story, reflecting on her background and experiences, while also addressing key issues such as the conflict in Gaza, immigration, and reproductive rights. She also challenged former President Trump on various fronts.

“I will be a president for all Americans,” Harris affirmed.

“You can trust me to prioritize the country over party and self, and to uphold America's core values—from the rule of law to free and fair elections to the peaceful transfer of power.”

She continued, “It is now our responsibility to do what past generations have done. With optimism and faith, we must fight for this nation we love, for the ideals we cherish, and to honor the immense responsibility that comes with the greatest privilege on earth—the privilege and pride of being an American.”
